Statistics Which Disprove Mythology

Notice: This Blog Originally appears from the Archives of:
Families For Justice.

These statistics were devised before the campaigns which targeted against so-called "dead beat fathers". Naturally, statistics are likely to changed since this posting. for example: Many numbers are actually Higher than posted.
The purpose of these statistics is to disprove the rumors which claim that fathers were previously irresponsible.

It also disproves the claim that there was dire need to launch a full-scale campaign against fathers.

61% of all child abuse is committed by biological mothers
25% of all child abuse is committed by natural fathers
Statistical Source: Current DHHS report on nationwide Child Abuse

79.6% of custodial mothers were awarded support, from the courts.

(In many cases: this also included the male surrendering his home, if it was jointly owned. And, the amounts awarded were often nearing 40% of his entire gross salary).

29.9% of custodial fathers were given support.

(which usually happened to be a small amount. My studies had shown non-custodial mothers who were literally told to pay just a few dollars per month. Needless to say, this statistic is deliberately kept from public knowledge.)

(of the 29.9% of women told to pay support:)

46.9% of non-custodial mothers totally defaulted on their legal obligations.

(of the 79.6% of fathers ordered to pay support)

26.9% of non-custodial fathers totally defaulted on their obligations.

The Most interesting statistic regarding Moral Obligation:

80% of all non-custodial fathers who were not ordered to pay support, still chose to offer payments to his former spouse. By Similar terms, a large percentage of former husbands had voluntarily given up their residence, in order to better provide for his ex-spouse & their children. The exact statistics are subject to debate. But, it's rumored to be near the 80% margin.

During the 1980's/1990's:

20.0% of non-custodial mothers were paying support at some level
(and I emphasize the fact that, those financial requirements were minimal.)

66.2% of single custodial mothers worked less than full-time
10.2% of single custodial fathers worked less than full-time

7.0% of single custodial mothers work more than 44 hours weekly
24.5% of single custodial fathers work more than 44 hours weekly

46.2% of single custodial mothers received public assistance
20.8% of single custodial fathers received public assistance

(the 46.2% Maternal statistic is deceiving, because: mothers usually receive assistance which specifically pertains to their needs. and, in many cases, this 'assistance' includes Full Medical support)

(THE 20.8% of custodial fathers receiving public assistance is grossly over-stated. The majority of custodial fathers receiving assistance, do so, in the form of Disability payments. (This is NOT a form of parental assistance.)

79.1% of fathers with joint custody pay all the support due.
(Even fathers with joint custody are still supporting their ex-spouse)

90.2% of fathers with visitation privileges pay all the support due
44.5% of fathers with no visitation pay all the support due

(for example: suppose, a child is placed for adoption. And the biological father pays support to the adoptive parents. Whilst, the biological mother is considered heroic, because she chose not to abort. This is why Fathers Activists choose to ignore some issues. We concede that any woman who completes her pregnancy
will not be required to pay any support to 'Foster Parents', 'Homes For Children', 'Orphanages', or, any such institution.)

37.9% of fathers are denied any visitation. this statistic is constantly changing.

One missing statistic pertains to the number of wealthy fathers who give vastly
more than the amount which they are required to give.

Another missing statistic pertains to the number of women who admit that they don't require the degree of assistance which they are currently receiving. -Dave.

NOTICE: This post has been slightly modifies from it's original form, to compensate
for the 'past tense'. Statistics also include current trends, as well.
it's NOT necessary to memorize the exact figures, since they are often changing.
THE PURPOSE OF THIS BLOG, is to dispel the stereotype that fathers were
"deadbeats".
